Homebrew AniMate Announced

Insomniac197 announces his homebrew game, AniMate (Animal Mate), for PSP. Who would have guessed that the idea came about from sketches made for a 2 year old kid? Well, that, and the desire to gain mad skills in PSP programming.

Although it’s still in development, Insomniac 197 says AniMate (Animal Mate) was inspired by the handheld virtual pet Tamagotchi.

The game he’s currently working on allows you to take care of a pet by pushing several buttons to perform certain actions like feed or play. But instead of just feeding or playing with your pet, AniMate has built in mini-game’s action to make for a more dynamic experience.

Here’s a rundown of the game’s components that are already completed:

-Graphic concepts and engine
-Menus and navigation
-Load/autosave of pet
-Incrementing screenshot
-Mini Game for ‘Eat’ (working title Leaf Feast)
-Mini Game for ‘Fun’ (working title Dance Off) [Still finalising]
-Sleep

Here are the areas Insomniac 197 is still polishing before releasing it:

-Encrypt/encode save file
-Mini Game for ‘Wash’ (Hygiene)
-Stat table for the pet
-Finishing ‘Dance Off’

Finally, here’s the list of what he’s looking into developing right after the beta:

-Wifi access (no communication – basically a high score table)
-More pet availability (most likely varying colors)
-More Mini games
