Cygni: All Weapons Blazing – redefining the shot -’em- up

The journey of developing Cygni has n’t been easy, especially as a start- up, with this being our debut game. However, every step of this voyage has been filled with love. Our inspiration came from our youth’s enjoyment of shoot’em up on square machines, which was a joy to everyone regardless of their high scores. We used the power of the PlayStation 5 to restore this thrilling experience using the power of the next-generation systems. With an amazing history and creative gameplay features, we now have a refreshing take on the shoot’em up for a new generation of gamers.

Cygni, a world colonized by people, thrives on old technologies found in ruins left by an unknown culture. These vestiges act as a crucial force that propels technological advancement. Our protagonist Ava, a new recruit in Cygni’s Air Force, pilots the Orca in a determined struggle against a rapid, effective attack by bio- mechanical aliens — probably Cygni’s original inhabitants.
Energy Management: Switching between shields ( health ) and weapons ( more firepower and missiles ) on the fly.
Combat: Air- to- atmosphere and air- to- ground combat includes a actual- time crowd system—not only a background prop, they are gameplay- related, where players can connect with allied forces on the ground. This reciprocal help is essential to play as well as boosting your chances of getting pickups and boosting your score.

We wanted to push the boundaries of visible storytelling in Cygni without compromising gameplay by utilizing our prior work in animation and cinematography. This includes short cutscenes in between levels and creating full-scale, high-quality CG cinematics ( Intro and Outro to the game ), which are uncommon in most indie games and the genre. With 60FPS/ 4K running simultaneously, Cygni makes the most of the PS5’s power and SSD, resulting in clear graphics, quick loading times, and soft gameplay. We wanted to make a shoot’em up that’s not wholly a bullet heaven experience – maybe you WILL get hit, but that’s OK. You can strategize your offensive vs. defensive gameplay ( firepower vs. shield ) by balancing your ship’s power between its weapons and shields. This is the fundamental gameplay mechanic. We have used the vertical sensory feedback from the DualSense controller to raise and improve this in a tactile but reasonable way.
It’s been crucial to be connected to our neighborhood, who have quietly supported Cygni from the beginning because of our independent roots at our core.
