Nearly two years later, the” Find My” feature assists in recovering a lost Apple Watch

Apple Watches are capable of surviving immersion in salt water up to a certain depth.
The Find My feature has returned an Apple Watch to a YouTuber who lost it while swimming and diving during the summer of 2022. Jared Brick, of Brick House Media, made a video where he explained the story behind the recovery of his Apple Watch. He bought Apple Watches both for himself and his 11-year-old son to stay connected during a family vacation to celebrate his son’s birthday. The family went to the British Virgin Islands for some scuba-diving. Jared used the watch to track dives and check time, including some that went over 100 feet deep. Apple Watches are rated to be used underwater for up 50 meters (164 feet). The Watch performed as expected. Brick jumped off the boulders and into the shallow waters of The Baths, a swimming area on Virgin Gorda. It wasn’t until a few days later that Brick realized he didn’t have the Apple Watch on him. Brick says in his documentary that he didn’t realize he had lost the Apple Watch at the time. “I was distracted by the beauty of the place,” Brick says. Brick realized he had lost the Apple Watch and used Find My to report it as lost. Brick said that the image of the map of the beach showed exactly where the Apple Watch was lost. He gave up trying to retrieve it because he was no longer in the area. “I figured that it was gone.” Brick received a phone call 18 months later in December 2023 from a resident of Virgin Gorda. Brick explained that the watch was found on the same beach, but after charging the device, the lost message appeared with Brick’s phone number. “The man who found the watch called me and sent me the photo.” The man, Jonathan, sent the Watch to Brick who lives in Felton (California), not far from Apple headquarters. The Apple Watch survived its underwater experience in the ocean and the 3,600-mile return journey by mail to its owner. Brick received his Apple Watch in April 2024, 22 months after it was lost. The video shows Brick opening the envelope to find it in working condition. “I want to thank Jonathan in the Caribbean who found it, contacted me, and shipped it back to me. And Apple for making amazing, working technology,” said Brick.
