CarPlay risk reporting is ultimately made available in Google Maps.
Google Maps for CarPlay
Google Maps now supports hazard and delays reporting, years after the feature was first introduced on its iOS and Android applications. Apple Maps’ ability to quickly report an incident or lane closure is one of its most useful features. Apple Maps’ inability to give enough time for you to confirm if an incident is still present is one of the most annoying things. It’s a feature which has helped Apple Maps users in 2021 and Google Maps iPhone users since 2019. iPhone users are denied the same Google Maps functionality once they connect with CarPlay. It would seem that this would be the most useful place, but drivers have been able to only see other people’s alerts and not report their own for years. According to 9to5Google these incident reports will soon be available to CarPlay users. It’s still rolling out and it is not clear when all users will be able to access it. It’s odd that incident reporting is not visible when Google Maps and Android Auto are connected. Drivers will see a hazard symbol when it is available. Tapping it will bring up quick controls to report common issues. These can range from a crash, an object on the highway, construction, or a speedtrap. This reporting feature was added shortly after Google Maps had a similar issue with speed. Google Maps added a speedometer around five years ago on Android. It has now been brought to iOS.
