Google has released a trio of new features in the Chrome browser for macOS that are designed to improve your web surfing experience. Google has already shown its AI in many areas. Gemini is its biggest effort to compete with ChatGPT and Apple Intelligence. Google is now bringing some AI smarts to Chrome. Chrome for macOS is getting three new AI features, announced via a blog on Thursday. These three features are designed to make searching easier, both on the web and in your history. The first change is the new option to use Google Lens, Google’s visual search system. The update allows users to select the Google Lens button in the address bar, and then select any item visible in the tab. This includes items in images. Users will then be presented with a list of matches on a sidebar. They can refine the results by adding more details. Google Lens enhanced searches in Chrome. The second major change is that users can now search their browsing history. These searches include pages you visited but did not save via bookmark. Users can search history using conversational languages. AI is able to parse queries like “What was the ice cream shop that I looked at last Thursday?” The screen will then display relevant previously visited pages. Google says that this feature is ‘entirely optional’, that it can be switched off, and it will never use browsing information from incognito. Tab Compare, which allows AI to create an overview of several products displayed in multiple tabs, may be the most practical option for shoppers. The feature allows you to see all the details of a grouping of products in one place, including summary, key specifications and reviews. Google Lens will be available to users in a few days, and Tab Compare and Browsing history search will be available to US users within a few weeks. A previous AI update from January brought generative AI features into the browser. These included AI-assisted editing, AI-infused customized browser themes, and Tab Organiser.
