Apple’s rollout schedule wo n’t cause delays for the iPhone 16

The iPhone 16 is expected to be a minor upgrade from the previous model.
Apple has no plans to hold off on releasing the annual update for the iPhone 16 until the much-hyped Apple Intelligence will begin appearing weeks after the initial iOS 18 release. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg notes that the Apple Intelligence feature was only included in the first developer beta for iOS 18.1, and not in the original betas. In its original presentation of iOS 18, the company separated the Apple Intelligence from the base features that would be available to most iPhone models. The latter only works with the iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max for the time being. Apple has not revealed when the full rollout of Apple Intelligence will be completed. It is expected that all iPhone 16 models will be able use at least some of the features when they arrive. Apple Intelligence will also not be available in the initial releases for macOS Sequoia or iPadOS 18, but will begin shipping with the first major update. Gurman noted in his Power On Newsletter that Apple once delayed the release of an iPhone to October – for the iPhone 4S 13 years ago – because major iCloud features and Siri weren’t ready. As usual, the iPhone 16 line is expected to be released in mid-September. AppleInsider published a hands on with the first iOS 18.1 beta, which includes new writing tools, summary features, recording and transcript options, and a first attempt to improve the Siri experience. Later betas are expected to include other features, including the much-hyped Genmoji integration and ChatGPT. Apple Intelligence’s full suite of features is expected to be released throughout the rest of 2024. Some speculate that some features might not be completed until early 2025.
