Stripe withholds $100k from NotchNook developer Io.Cafe
Last updated 1 hour before. The developer of the NotchNook Macbook Pro app isn’t being paid. Stripe is allegedly closing a account and preparing a refund of approximately $100,000 in sales. NotchNook is a macOS application that adds Dynamic Island style behavior to the MacBook Pro notch. The app was well received by users, generating over 7,700 successful payments and only seven disputed ones. This has generated approximately $100,000 in revenue but it appears that the developer may not receive any of those funds. Igor Marcossi claimed in a LinkedIn posting that Stripe took actions to keep the money from the company. Stripe halted payments to the bank account of the company despite Marcossi’s insistence that Stripe had all relevant documents. Marcossi claims that Stripe decided the “bank owner’s account was not aware of where the money came from.” Stripe decided to close the bank account without notice, Marcossi says. The developer claims that they will no longer be able to sell products via Stripe. Payment processors have said that refunds for consumers will take place in five days. Marcossi received a response from customer service on Monday that an urgent ticket had been opened with a team of specialists. Stripe replied with an email saying that it would no longer accept payments and refunds would continue. Stripe’s refusal to allow purchases to continue is unclear, but the company has made the obtuse statement that it does not know where payments come from. Marcossi has not explained why the site is being closed. Stripe’s Operations Team has commented on the posting since it was made, insisting that the company is “digging in now.” Marcossi replied by saying that Stripe’s Sao Paulo headquarters will receive a “medida seguranca”, a notice which the developer claims will “make you still pay.” AppleInsider contacted Stripe to get clarification.
