Dynamic Island showing notifications of Check-in via iMessage
Last updated 6 hours agoCheck in is a great tool to let a friend or family member know that you have arrived safely at your destination, but it’s also useful in other situations. Check In can be used in other ways with iOS 17. Check In will notify a friend when your iPhone arrives. You can select what information they can see in the event that you don’t finish your Check In. If a friend sends a Check In, but their iPhone doesn’t arrive as expected, you can see their location, battery level, cellular signal and more. The feature can also be used to alert a loved on of your safety when you meet someone new. If you know your route, you can use it to notify a recipient about your arrival without using ETA on Maps. Check In is marketed as a way to check in when you get home, but there are other uses. You may find new uses for Check In by exploring its menus and customization options. Check In is the easiest way to let someone else know that you have arrived at your destination. Set it up before you start your next trip. Open Messages

You can select the mode of transport you will be using, whether you’re driving, taking mass transit or walking, when you enter the address. It is important to select the mode of transport you will be using so that your device can accurately calculate the time it will take you arrive. You can manually add time if you know that you will arrive a bit later than Check In estimates. You can set an extra 15 minutes or 30 minutes. Once you’ve done this, it can be removed. Entering the recipient’s address instead of your own will let them know that you have arrived to meet them, rather than when you arrive home. This is a great way to let someone know you’re on your way without having to send an ETA. Check Ins in iMessage are not as effective as ETAs in Maps. You can only send one at a given time. Use ETA in Maps to let others know that you have arrived at your destination. Check-ins can be used to send location-based alerts, or they can be sent after a certain amount of time. This is useful when you are in an unfamiliar place or meeting someone for the first time and your loved ones want to ensure your safety. You will be notified several times before the timer expires. You’ll need to manually dismiss the Check In once the timer expires, or else the recipient will receive a notification that you did not respond. The recipient will be able to access the information that you originally granted them. You have options to choose when the timer expires without confirmation, from Check-in to Limited. These details will be applicable to both your iPhone as well as Apple Watch.
