New M4 Mac designs being tested before expected launch in October

Recent developer test logs have revealed that Apple is planning to release a M4 Mac one month after the iPhone 16 launch. Apple fans are gearing up for the highly anticipated iPhone 16 event that will be held in the second half 2024. New Macs will also be released this year, but the iPhone isn’t the only thing to look forward to. Bloomberg has seen developer test logs that show Apple is testing unreleased Macs to ensure compatibility. The Macs that are being tested have been identified by the numbers “16.1,” “16.2,”, “16.3”, and “16.10”. Each Mac is the base-level version a machine with an M4 processor. Three of the four machines have a total of 10 cores in their processors, whereas one machine at the lower end has only eight cores. The 10-core processors also come with 10-core graphics processors, while the 8-core CPU comes with an eight-core GPU. All models are either 16 or 32 Gigabytes. This would suggest that models being tested are most likely a new MacBook Pro line. It would be logical to see the new M4 MacBook Pro lineup as early as October, as they are currently being tested. Apple’s previous gap of several months between the M1 and M2 generation Pro and Max releases and the base M-series chips would be closed with an October launch. The October 2023 update introduced all three chip tiers simultaneously, and in the MacBook Air line. Apple has not announced a specific product launch date, but it is likely that the MacBook Pro and Mac Mini lines will be updated first. The iMac may also get a refresh in the fall, but we expect that MacBook Air will have to wait until spring 2025 to make the switch to M4.
