Subscribe to AppleInsider YouTubeHere is what Apple could show off at its most-watched annual event. Media invitations were sent to media on August 26 inviting them to a face-to-face gathering at Apple Park. The event will take place at the Steve Jobs Theater at the campus at 10:00 am P.T. On September 9. The invite has the headline “It’s Glowtime”, along with an Apple logo of a similar theme. This is probably a reference to the multicolored glowing effect that appears on the edge the iPhone display when Apple Intelligence has been activated. Apple invites the media to its event. The event will be streamed live by Apple on its website and its official YouTube account. Apple’s event is unusual because it’s earlier than expected. Rumors, analyses, and leakers all predicted that the event would take place on Tuesday, September 10, but it actually took place one day earlier. iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro Apple’s crown jewel is the iPhone and in 2024 that will be the iPhone 16 Generation. As per usual, there will be four models, consisting of the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The iPhone 16 will have a screen that is similar to the iPhone 15’s for non-Pro versions, measuring 6.1 or 6.7 inches in the Plus version. The iPhone 16 Pro could gain 0.2 inches each, becoming 6.3 and 6.9 inches. Renders of iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 ProMaxThe chips will also receive a boost with the A18 Pro bringing more processing power to the Pro models. The A17 Pro chip in the current generation iPhones will be used for the standard iPhone 16 models, with a few minor tweaks. The iPhone 16 range will be able to perform all the AI functions that Apple Intelligence will bring in the future. Apple is expected change the camera arrangement of the non-Pro models into a vertical arrangement. This will slim down the camera bump in general. Other changes may include an upgrade of more sensors to 48MP or the expansion of Tetraprism lenses from the iPhone 15 Pro Max to all Pro models. There could be even more changes to the outside of the device, such as the expansion of Action button across all models and the long-rumored capture button. The iPad may get its usual update at the same time as the iPhone. It was last updated in 2022. This means it is due for an update. The iPad has been the subject of few rumors, but it’s likely to receive a processor upgrade to the A-series. The tenth generation iPadSince the sixth generation iPad mini was released in September 2021 it could be enough time for the compact model get a similar specification bump. Expect nothing from the iPad Air or iPad Pro lines, as they were updated earlier in 2024. Mac mini Apple updated the Mac Mini in January 2023. An update to the M4 is likely this fall. Rumors have also suggested that an update will be coming for the model soon. The M4 Mac mini is rumored to have a new form factor that has been long-awaited. This will make the Mac desktop even smaller and more compact. It may also be a visual departure from the current aluminum puck design. It is likely that the M4 Mac Mini will be joined by a M4 Pro Edition. It should look similar to the M4 version but have a faster chip. iMac In November 2023 the 24-inch iMac received its last update, bringing it up to M3. It is believed that, despite the relatively short gap between updates, it will not miss the M4 update. Apple’s 24-inch iMac and M3However the desktop Mac might not only be available in one size. Rumors suggest that a larger iMac, possibly as large as 32-inches versus the current model’s 24-inches, is on its way. MacBook Pro Updates to the 14-inch MacBook Pro or 16-inch MacBook Pro are likely to appear in late 2024. They have been mentioned in many rumors. Apple’s MacBook ProWith the M3 editions being introduced in 2023 at a cadence of one year, Apple could easily do the same with the M4 versions in the coming weeks. Rumors have not yet suggested any other major changes for the MacBook Pro line. This time, it may be a simple spec bump. Apple Watch Series 10 According to many rumors, Apple Watch Series 10 may be renamed Series X and undergo a series of major updates that are fitting for a milestone. A rendering of what the Apple Watch Series 10 might look like. This includes making the Apple Watch smaller and thinner than ever before. The display could be even bigger than the Apple Watch Ultra at 50.8mm. These changes may not be very useful to users of older models. Rumors have circulated that the connectors used to attach bands to the Apple Watch could change in the next version. This would make older bands obsolete. Apple has announced a number upcoming changes to AirPods and AirPods Max. It would be logical that new models might make an appearance at the September event. AirPods 4 in the charging caseA pair of AirPods could be included in the charging case. AirPods 4 may expand the range by offering two variants. One would be a cheaper model with an updated design, and USB-C connector for the case. The second model could be a midrange offering with Find My and active noise cancellation built into the case. AirPods Max were released in December 2020 and have not been updated since. Price drops and rumors have led to the belief that an update is imminent. AirPods MaxA pair of AirPods maxSo far, rumors suggest that there will be a move to USB-C, to match other Apple hardware. There may also be a switch to H2 chip. This could lead to better noise cancellation as well as improved battery life. What is unlikely to appear at the event? Some products will not be updated, simply because they were recently updated. The iPad Pro models, for example, were updated to M4 in 2024 along with new models of iPad Air. There has been too little time in between updates for this to happen. In other cases, the delay is due to rumors or analyst forecasts that say changes will be further in the future. MacBook Air, for example, is expected to receive another update in spring 2025. While the Mac Studio and Mac Pro are in the right timeframe for an upgrade, it is expected that they will wait until 2025. Some estimates expect a late 2025 release. AirPods Pro were last updated in September of 2022, with improvements to ANC (Automatic Noise Cancellation) and Transparency due to the use of H2. It was later updated to include a USB charging case instead. Rumors suggest that a third generation release could occur in 2025 and not 2024.
