New Additions To Lord Of The Rings Online
Although most hobbits (Bilbo, Frodo, Sam, Pippin and Merry excepted!) neither know, nor care much about the world beyond the confines of The Shire, Tolkien fans know that it is part of a much larger region of Middle Earth, known as Eriador. Now, players of Lord Of The Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar can visit Eriador in the virtual game world.
Eriador encompasses the dangerous and mysterious Barrow-Downs, where the Ring Quest nearly ended before it began. Gamers will be able to see and visit the ruins of the Watch-Tower from the Second Age and the lost realm of Arnor. Weathertop Hill is included, as is Thorin’s Hall in the heart of the Ered Luin. Of most interest to Hobbit fans, however, will be the Shire itself, including familiar landmarks such as the Brandywine Bridge, the great Smials, and the Shire’s “urban center” (or as close as it comes to one), Michel Delving. This is where farmers come to trade produce, where skilled tradesmen practice their skills, and where hobbits from all over the shire come for the latest gossip. It is also the center of hobbit civic and political life.
Although it played a small part in Tolkien’s original tale, the Town Hole – home to mayor Will Whitfoot – will be a prominent location in LOTRO:SOA. When online, be sure to stop by and say “hi” to His Honor, and don’t forget to visit the Mathom-House and see Bilbo’s mithril-shirt and elven-sword, Sting.
