A chat with Heatwave Interactive’s Anthony Castoro

Heatwave Interactive - Image 1The folks at FiringSquad lined up Heatwave Interactive‘s Anthony “Sunsword” Castoro in their sights and asked him the latest regarding his new entrepreneurial move into the MMO gaming market. Heatwave Interactive is a product of his business ambitions.

Ever since childhood, he claimed to have had the entrepreneur’s attitude. He always wanted to have his own company of sorts. He did start a group dedicated to game development once, called “Integrated Visions,” but after finding out that those “visions” weren’t so “integrated” after all, their debut title Hoverblades just disintegrated.

Soon enough, after a decade of experience in the game industry, which included works on Ultima Online and Battlefield 2, he felt that it was high time to pursue that dream again; hence, he co-founded Heatwave Interactive. Together with Donn Clendenon, they hope to re-tune the MMO genre’s “entertainment” value.

Big words. But for a company so named after an “overwhelming passion for making games,” it’s sure to be interesting what they will spew out, even up against giants in the current MMO war. They currently have about five to six projects in their crosshairs and only two are lined up in their “definition” of MMO. None of the games are licensed property, but they are very sure that they MMOs they decide to work on would succeed from the start.
