A site to keep track of WoW economy in real time

wow economyYou can’t have a virtual world and not deal with virtual economy. Even the simplest of RPG titles has, at least one way or another, a construct that resembles economy. Imagine this now for Blizzard‘s MMO giant World of Warcraft. There are more than 7 million players continuously trading items day in and day out. And like in real world, you can never be so sure if you’re getting your money’s real worth.

There is actually a newly opened online site out there that is attempting to take care of this business, so to speak. WoWEconomy’s main aim, apparently, is to monitor and provide an analysis regarding the prices of in-game items found in the game’s various auction houses. Furthermore, WoWEconomy maintains that their data is actually reliable. They explained:

A very obvious question was how often do we collect data and how many servers we check. We scan all servers and all factions at least once a day and then analyse the results to present you some general trends.

At this moment the site does not allow you to select server and faction and view trends on that server. That part of the application is under testing and will be made available very soon.

Judging from their statement, it seems that they are indeed up to the challenge. We have to keep in mind though, that there are actually a good number of WoW servers and factions out there. We wonder if they can indeed keep with their own promise. But until an alternative presents itself, we guess players will just have to make do with this.
