A wealth of news for FFXI’s upcoming expansion: Treasures of Aht Urghan

Much has been heard about the “new”s regarding the much-anticipated expansion of Final Fantasy XI: Treasures of Aht Urghan such as the new characters, game modes, etc. However, the FFXI development team (though I think it’s their marketing wing this time) has leaked info about specifications regarding the innovations.

areaNew Areas
Any new game, or expansion for that matter, needs a number of new areas, so it doesn’t come much of a surprise that Aht Urghan has some. Developers, however, claims that the third expansion is faithful to that of past expansions in terms of areas, only this time a new set of  formidable monsters (hopefully a ton of new NMs) at each location will have an added bonus.

New Missionsmission
Players always expects new missions and  Treasures of Aht Urghan doesn’t disappoint. Final Fantasy bigwigs promise players that aside from new missions, they’ll meet new characters and unexpected guests as they complete their tasks.

Another latest spill is about the earlier announcement that players can reach the Empire of Aht Urhgan simply by ship from Mhaura, but this time, gamers are told to prepare themselves for certain feats that needs to be achieved first before one is allowed to travel towards the empire. Mission to get a mission? Sounds cool to me.

jobsNew Jobs…via New Quests
Like I’ve said before much has been talked about the addition of the new jobs namely the Blue Mage, who has copycat-type abilities enabling it to learn enemy skills; Corsair, a gun-toting pirate probably drawn and developed from previous FFXI characters Setzer and Cait Smith (or maybe game developers got infatuated with Captain Jack Sparrow of the Caribbean, that’s only a hunch though); and the Puppetmaster who, as the name suggests, uses pets or puppets as its tools, much like in the necromancer job class. But this info is fairly new, the new jobs can only be unlocked after the completion of certain quests.

ThatÂ’s a tough load of new. Hope the game meets expectations; “new” know what I mean.
