A well-gripped hands-on of Virtua Tennis 3 – plus TGS trailer

TGS 2006: PS3

With their hands-on of Virtua Tennis 3 for the PS3 during TGS 2006, Gamespot found that they liked how comfortable the tennis racket felt in their palm, and how easy it was to return tennis shots with a wide variety of tennis strokes available for use. Well, it really was a PS3 controller, not a tennis racket – but you get our point, right?

One hallmark of the Virtua Tennis series has always been the easy-to-understand controls. Just like its predecessors, it only uses three buttons – circle, square, and x – to execute nearly every forehand, backhand, and volley that has been served in the tennis court. The game’s deceptively easy, however: its difficulty will slowly escalate as you progress up the ranks and through the game, further challenging the player to evolve his tennis game and keep up with the pressure.

The other hallmark of Virtual Tennis – at least for its appearance on the PS3 – is its impressive graphics. Gamespot reports vivid colors, amazing detail in the environment and character models, and ball boys running back and forth along the net. Luckily, we found Sega‘s TGS trailer for Virtua Tennis 3 over at GameVideos.com that brings all those descriptions to life.
