A whole host of new stuff for the PSP at Sony’s Playstation Business Conference (Dupe Article)
At the Playstation Business Conference held last March 15 in Tokyo, Sony President Ken Kutaragi launched two new peripherals for the PSP and unveiled some very significant updates to Sony’s popular portable gaming machine.
He presented an add-on USB camera (PSP-300), which comes with a microphone to support online video chat and can be manipulated to let users take pictures and video footage both of themselves and others, and a GPS receiver unit (PSP-290) which can acquire a satellite fix within 40 seconds after being activated and whose coordinates are updated every second.
Kutaragi also mentioned that games associated with these devices are forthcoming: A PSP version of EyeToy in September and a GPS-compatible version of Hot Shots Golf in October. In addition there will be a firmware update of the PSP to give it video/voice over IP (VVoIP) functionality.
He let slip that there are to be software upgrades as well, which will include Macromedia Flash Player Version 6.0 for the browser and support for video via RSS Channels.
Lastly, Kutaragi announced that the launch of Sony’s “E-Distribution” digital delivery system, which allows games to be downloaded onto PSPs, would take place near the end of the year, and that a PSone emulator that would allow for original PS games to be played on the PSP was also on the way.
Good stuff all, and really worth looking forward too – most especially the VVoIP functionality! The PSP’s beginning to look more and more like an all-in-one device…
