According to an analyst’s review, iPhone 16 might not experience a very cycle after all.

The earnings calls from iPhone suppliers indicate that iPhone 16 is not being ordered in greater quantities than iPhone 15. This puts into question the rumored Apple Intelligence-driven super cycle. Analysts have been putting the pieces together since WWDC, indicating that Apple Intelligence could be driving significant sales of iPhone 16. The speculation, however, is not reflected in the parts orders of key suppliers. Ming-Chi Kuo, a long-time supply-chain analyst and Apple leaker, has posted a new post claiming that Largan and TSMC discussed part demand during their earnings call. Both companies said they had not seen a spike in demand that would indicate a upcoming iPhone supercycle. Kuo claims that orders for iPhone 16 units, at 87 millions units for second half of 2024, have not surpassed iPhone 15 units orders at 91million units for the same period in 2023. Parts manufacturers have experienced consistent orders. Previous industry reports suggested that Apple would not release many Apple Intelligence functions until early 2025. It’s unlikely that the fall will see a spike in demand for an iPhone feature which isn’t available to everyone outside of betas. Apple Intelligence is only available on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The entire iPhone 16 line is expected to be able run Apple’s AI and drive sales. Apple Intelligence is not expected to launch in the fall. This will affect demand. Kuo says that Apple doesn’t plan for a supercycle either, based on supply chain orders.
