What recession? Whatever that is, Activision Blizzard is definitely not feeling it. Just before their investor’s call, the company announced that their net income increased from US$ 195 million to US$ 219 million.

Okay, so their year on year may have gone down 7%, from US$ 1 billion to US$ 967 million. Still, that remains to be pretty lucrative, don’t you think?

Helping in the boost of net income is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which settled at the top spot on the charts for FPS action games, according to NPD, Chart-Track and Gfk. The Call of Duty franchise in general was also declared the number one third-party franchise in the US and Europe for the first six months of the calendar year.

Let’s not forget the recently released StarCraft II, which sold over a million units within the first 24 hours of launch. There’s also the Guitar Hero franchise, which has tucked some 40 million units of sale under its belt throughout its lifetime, as of June 30.

Of course, ActiBlizz can’t be happier about this. “Our quarterly results were fueled by continued strong consumer response to Activision Publishing’s Call of Duty franchise and Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft,” said Bobby Kotick.

Looking ahead, there’s no sign of them slowing down as they gear up for the release of WoW: Cataclysm as well as Call of Duty: Black Ops, Tony Hawk: SHRED, DJ Hero 2, Bakugan, GoldenEye 007, Bakugan, and Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock.

“We have never been better positioned for the holiday season than we are today with such a strong slate of games and the best team in our industry to bring them to market.”

Congratulations, ActiBlizz! And here’s to more great games ahead!
