Today, we see the birth of a new umbrella corp (no zombies included) in the gaming industry. Some of the biggest key players in game development and publishing business have combined forces. As announced in a press release, Activision Inc. has just penned a deal with Vivendi.
Activision and Vivendi Games (which includes Blizzard Entertainment) are to merge into one great powerhouse and be called… [drumroll] Activision Blizzard! Once established, Activision Blizzard will be the world’s largest pure-play online and console game publisher.
So what exactly are we looking at here? If we go for games libraries, Activision has Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk, etc. Vivendi Games was the one who did titles like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro. And of course, Blizzard Entertainment (the sub-arm of Vivendi Games) has their World of Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo.
While these are just some of their most well known titles and best-selling franchises, their games library spans across all platforms, consoles, and handhelds, from this generation and previous ones. It’s pretty overwhelming if you think about it.
