Activision wants compensation for release of Rock Band patch

Rock Band by Harmonix - Image 1After putting the blame on Harmonix for the delay of the guitar compatibility patch that would allow Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PC) guitar controllers to work in Rock Band (PS3, Xbox 360), Activision is now asking for compensation for the use of its technology. Rock Band by Harmonix - Image 1Activision has revealed the reason why the company objected against the release of the guitar controller compatibility patch Harmonix wanted to release. The fix would have allowed Activision’s Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PC) guitar peripherals for the Sony PlayStation 3 to work in Harmonix and MTV Games’ Rock Band (PS3, Xbox 360).

“We believe we should be compensated for the use of our technology,”  Activision’s spokesperson Maryanne Lataif told The Boston Globe. Guitar Hero 3‘s owners continue to claim that Harmonix refuses to reach an agreement. This agreement, however, apparently involves money.

According to Harmonix spokeswoman Spencer Saltonstall, “We are really and truly not looking at this from the financial standpoint. We are looking at this from the consumer standpoint.” The company already sent a patch to Sony to allow competing guitars to work in Rock Band, but Activision reportedly prevented its release.
