Affair in Second Life gets divorce in real life
A woman divorced her husband after walking on him twice engaging in an online affair using his computer-generated avatar. Apparently, Second Life is real enough – even your avatar will have to exit through the window if you don’t want to get slapped with divorce papers.
Amy Taylor from Newquay divorced her husband, David Pollard, after he committed “adultery” through playing Second Life. “It may have started online, but it existed entirely in the real world and it hurts as much as now it is over,” she said. “I looked at the computer screen and could see his character having sex with a female character.”
In February 2007, she caught him…err..his avatar.. in the act, and she immediately hired a private investigator in the game to do some digging. This was followed by a big fight, but then the couple reconciled. All was well until April when, “I caught him cuddling a woman on a sofa in the game. It looked really affectionate.”
The next day, Taylor went to a local solicitor and filed for a divorce. “The solicitor wasn’t all that surprised,” she said. “She said it was her second divorce involving Second Life that week.”
To be fair, the guy did confess that he was falling out, so talks of separation were not unheard of between the two. “He confessed he’d been talking to this woman player in America for one or two weeks, and said our marriage was over and he didn’t love me any more, and we should never have got married,” Taylor said.
Ironically, the two met in a chat room in 2003.
Things get even more interesting now that Amy Taylor reveals she has a new man in her life – a guy she met in World of Warcraft. Even the Lich King is playing matchmaker now.
