Again, another Smash Brothers Update: The almighty Pokeball

Here’s another update about the highly-anticipated Super Smash Brothers Brawl for the Nintendo Wii, and it’s deliciously Pokemon-flavored. GameCube owners and faithful fans of the multiplayer beat-em-up franchise will remember how much of a wildcard the Pokeball item is, as far as item-enabled matches are concerned. What with the simple fact that until you threw the Pokeball, you had no idea what was going to come out.

If you’ve been wondering if it’s in the game, wonder no more: the red-and-white sphere of destruction is now confirmed to make its appearance in Brawl, with its features relatively intact. Meaning, you still won’t be able to know just what sort of Pokemon you’ll get until you throw the dang thing.

And while we’re not sure of how many Pokemon you’ll be able to randomly summon via Pokethrow, we do have visual confirmation that Groudon, a legendary Pokemon that made its appearance in Pokemon Ruby, is in. And he pretty much scorches every player he comes in contact with (except the player who summoned him in the first place). Definitely a combo-breaker if there ever was one.

Well, that’s another item down. Who knows what the next update will be next? Another scenic battlefield? Yet more items? Or even – dare we say it – a character update that’s long overdue? Only way to figure out is to wait for it, and we’ll be right here to keep you up to speed. In the meantime, we’ll be practicing our throwing arms. Goldeen, Goldeen, Goldeen….
