Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) invites everyone to grab an eyepatch and get ready to sail the virtual seas in their latest pirate-themed MMORPG Pirates of the Burning Sea. As previously announced by the developers from Flying Lab Software, the game finally went Open Beta yesterday, so FilePlanet subscribers can now download the game and take it out for a test drive.

The Open Beta download is only available to FilePlanet subscribers, so people who want to try out the game will have to register first. With that aside, the rather hefty download should take gamers quite a while to completely install and patch the game properly, so we suggest watching a couple of pirate-themed movies to get you into the mood (and possibly model your first character after Johnny Depp).

However, there have been several reports from individuals that they’ve been experiencing errors while downloading the latest patch of PotBS. Aether from the official PotBS website urges people who are encountering glitches related to the patch to submit a ticket to their support team at Flying Lab Software.

Pirates of the Burning Sea officially goes live this January 22, with customers who pre-ordered the game getting a head start hunting for buried treasure on January 7.
