Lifetime sales of the PS3 as of December 31, 2008: 21.3 million units. Yes, if you want your zeroes with that, that’s 21,300,000 PS3 units sold worldwide ever since Sony‘s console was released back in 2006. Mmm hmm.
Do note that this number doesn’t take into account the total shipped. It’s the total number of actual PS3 units that have already been sold. This after announcing the PSP’s total worldwide sell-in figure of 50 million, that’s a huge achievement for Sony.
This figure was revealed by none other than Sony in a recent press release. Part of their statement to the press also announces that they’ll be expanding into Latin America, launching support for their hardware and software lineup for the PS3, PSP, and PS2 across 13 countries in the region.
Also mentioned in the press release is the current number of registered PlayStation Network accounts: 17 million. Yay, we’re all statistics!
