Analyst: Nintendo may “refresh” DS Hardware to improve sales
The Nintendo DS has slowly been losing ground in terms of sales. Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian has predicted that Nintendo may launch an updated version of the handheld if the dip in sales continues. For more on this, check out the full version.
The Nintendo DS has enjoyed significant success ever since it came out, however, sales have been slowly declining. Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian has given word that Nintendo may launch an updated version of the handheld if the drop continues.
Sebastian noted that Nintendo expects to ship 28 million units in F2009, two million less than those shipped in F2008. He said that the forecasted year-over-year decline in DS shipments in its fourth quarter is well in line with their expectations and that they “believe Nintendo could launch a refresh of its handheld platform if sales momentum does not continue.”
An updated version of the DS actually seems like a good move on the part of Nintendo although it poses the question, “what more can the company do to improve the handheld?”
