Analyst Pachter on May: 360 outsold PS3, GTA 4 and Wii Fit on top
Ahead of the NPD Group’s report on video game sales, analysts have given out their predictions for the month of May, including everyone’s favorite analyst, Michael Pachter. So what’s he up to now? Find out after the link.
It won’t be long until we get the official sales numbers for the video game industry from the NPD Group for the month of May, which means that it’s time yet again for another round of predictions from our friendly neighborhood analysts.
For April, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter predicted that the PlayStation 3 outsold the Xbox 360. He was wrong on that count, so it probably isn’t surprising that he isn’t standing up for the PS3 now, saying that the Xbox 360 outsold the Sony console for the month of May.
SimExchange, on the other hand, believes that the PlayStation 3 outsold the Xbox 360 in May, although also only marginally. Here are the estimates that analysts have for the month of May:
Wii – Wedbush: 750,000, simExchange: 744,000
DS – Wedbush: 550,000, simExchange: 510,000
Xbox 360 – Wedbush: 250,000, simExchange: 216,000
PS3 – Wedbush: 225,000, simExchange: 228,000
PSP – Wedbush: 200,000, simExchange: 211,000
Pachter also predicts that software sales for that month will be topped by Grand Theft Auto 4 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) and Wii Fit. This was an easy call to make, since Grand Theft Auto 4 took home two Guinness awards for its monumental sales, and Wii Fit debuted as the third largest video game launch ever when it was released.
