This is what his sales data has revealed: Nintendo Wii sales have fallen short of market predictions, probably due to the supply shortage, and that the Sony PlayStation 3 is closing the gap between it and Microsoft‘s Xbox 360.
According to Mr. Divnich, the prevailing Nintendo Wii supply shortage “likely played a bigger role in hindering sales than originally expected.
It should be remembered that Divnich, along with fellow analyst Ed Barton, stated a couple of months ago that Nintendo’s supply deficit wouldn’t deal too much damage to the company’s dominant market position.
Furthermore, the analyst pointed out that Sony’s PS3 “has sold better than expected” against the Xbox 360 on a ratio of 1.6 to 1, as against the expected ratio of 1.8 to 1. Divnich explained that the PS3’s price cut and the introduction of a new 40GB model helped contribute to Sony’s current standing.
