Analysts: No PS4 any time soon

Meet the rest of Sony's broodEven as we’re just getting used to cuddling up with our PS3’s and Wii’s this Christmas, it looks like them analysts are looking forward again at the yet-to-be conceived PS4.

“I cannot now imagine a PlayStation 4” was the opinion of Nomura analyst Yuta Sakurai voiced on Sony‘s future plans, in an interviewed by the Financial Times.

“The appointment of Hirai could be the start of a shift from hardware to software,” Sakurai had said earlier, pointing out that Hirai, Sony’s new SCEI COO President, had been focused on software management in his earlier career.

On a related stint, we’ve got KBC analyst Hiroshi Kamide discussing what he thinks is Kutaragi’s newest role: managing SCEI‘s dealings with third-party publishers and patching up soured relations due to the PS3’s delays and shortage issues. Other analysts oppose Sakurai’s speculation, stating that Kutaragi, now SCEI CEO, will still have a lot of say in the everyday affairs of the corporation.

There you have it: No PS4 any time soon. With that out of the way, we’re wondering what sort of name Nintendo and Microsoft will have for their new consoles: Xbox 360= Xbox 720? Wii = Wii2 (Read: Wii-W**).
