Analysts predict Sony will be doing much better
Whether you love Sony or hate it, it’s common knowledge that they didn’t have a good year last year and their recent financial reports have confirmed it. The massive recall of 9.6 million laptop batteries and the launch costs of the PlayStation 3 really took its toll on the company.
Analysts say that the company is due for a rebound, though. Tomomi Yamashita, senior fund manager at Shinkin Asset Management, spoke on the company and the problems that Sony is trying to fix.
The forecast looks really good. It will be a matter of whether the company can actually achieve that goal. Investors think highly of Sony’s efforts to turn around its struggling electronics business. Now it’s game business is underperforming, and whether it can fix that too will be closely watched.
The company will be making its rebound with a new range of products, and expects the charge to be led by their line of LCD TVs as well as a better showing from the PlayStation Portable. Sony has warned, though, that their game division may be in the red for some time due to last year’s operating loss of about 232 billion yen.
