Another November war game: History Channel: Civil War

FredericksburgThere are 10 reasons why History Channel: Civil War is just as great as Gears of War.

  1. It’s got a November launch, just like Gears of War.
  2. It’s about war. And you carry warfare-oriented gear.
  3. Well-rendered graphics and realistic simulation of warfare (bullets whizzing, smoke billowing, sabers flashing).
  4. It’s fun. It’s historical. We’re running out of ideas here…

OK. We admit it: this is probably not going to be the biggest blockbuster ever. Alteridos asked in a recent article (with screenshots), “I’m the only one excited about this?” No, there are a bunch of other people interested in this game. Just don’t expect them to show up in droves. Hehe.

RoDmann691 said, “The South will rise again!” It sure can. The game from Activision Publishing Inc. lets you play Confederate or Union soldier in the bloody fields of Gettysburg, Bull Run, Antietam, and we forget the rest. It’s available for Xbox 360 and PC. It’s called “History Channel” because they used History Channel info: topographical maps and photographs, research on combat methods and weaponry, etc.

  • play as a Confederate or Union soldier battling through 12 of the most famous battles in U.S. history
  • each mission has a documentary video describing the historic moments in a battle, movements of armies, local fights, and battle statistics – yeah, unleash the general within
  • diverse landscapes of train yards, saw mills, and military forts
  • bayonets, sabers, the butt of a gun, fists, rifles, multiple types of grenades, exploding artillery, revolvers, muskets…
  • set charges, place explosives, sabotage enemy lines, destroy buildings…

History doesn’t look so boring.
