Apple’s first application engineer, Dana Redington’s Apple-1 computer, as well as a variety of Apple-related items, commanded a high price at auction. Steve Jobs’ office had a pile of soon to be discarded hardware in 1978 as the company was preparing for a move. Redington carefully selected a motherboard and its accessories from the pile with the permission of both Steve Wozniak and Jobs. The same Apple-1 sold for a staggering $315,914 on August 22, at an auction. RR Auctions reports that the board, which was previously unknown to Apple collectors, is now logged as #104 on the Apple-1 Registry. The auction also included an Apple Lisa-1 computer, with original ‘Twiggy drives’, which sold at $81,251. Also, a 1976 Steve Jobs signed check sold at $66,844. Steve Jobs: Three Apple-1 prototype Polaroid photos, which sold at $54,904 were also in the auction. All the items sold for $983,096. In June, a clothing auction featuring former Jobs featured a suit he wore in order to promote the Mac. It alone sold for $39,000.
