Apple gets Windows support?
BAPCo., Windows benchmarking consortium, announced that Apple Computer is now among its ranks. For those who are not familiar with BAPCo, it is the same group that produced the SYSmark 2004SE and MobileMark benchmark suites we use at PC Magazine; yes, the same ones that are being used as performance tests by media outlets, corporations and government agencies worldwide. BAPCo is also behind WEBmarkÂ’s webserver test.
AMD, Microsoft, Intel, Dell, Transmeta, ATI, nVidia, Toshiba, Seagate, Ziff Davis Media, CNET, HP, VNU, Atheros, and ARCintuition are among the frontliners of BAPCo. These companies are the ones who brainstormed and authored industry-standard programs like Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and 3ds max.
This is great news because users worldwide can start to expect the best from both OS worlds since Apple is now open to Window-based performance testing. Window drivers for Intel Macs such as iMac, Mac mini and Mac Book Pro with Intel Core Duo processors is now a possibility. Aside from VISTA, this is probably one of the best thing to look out for in computer evolution (add to that the possibility that VISTA may take longer than “World Peace” to arrive).
