Apple Intelligence testing is available for iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and os Sequoia 15.
Apple Intelligence in action:
Last updated 1 hour beforeDeveloper beta testers can now try out Apple Intelligence for their iPhones and other devices as part of the iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia 15 betas. Apple Intelligence was the most anticipated change for Apple’s WWDC updates to iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia. Apple has now made the machine-learning update available to developers. It was not available for testing in the first-generation betas. Today, Apple released the first betas of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18,1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1, which include Apple Intelligence. The beta is available alongside betas for iOS 18, iOS 18 macOS Sequoia 15 and their counterparts. What is Apple Intelligence (AI)? Apple Intelligence is Apple’s push into generative AI. This includes the use large language models (LLMs), to perform various tasks that involve text, images, or in-app actions. It can be used, for example, to help iPhone users compose better emails. Tools are available to help proofread, rewrite, or adjust the tone. These changes can be made in a variety of styles, including a more professional tone for messages related to work. Siri can also be used to find images quickly using natural language prompts. Apple Intelligence is also able to generate images from scratch. Genmoji creates cartoony icons based on prompts. Image Playground allows users to combine concepts in order to create an image. Users can also insert a generated picture of their own description in apps. The generated image can also be created according to the context of the existing document elements to make it more relevant to the text. For example, an article about France could generate an image of the Eiffel tower. Apple Intelligence can also improve Siri’s responses, as it is able to better understand the user. Siri will be able to have more natural conversations and also consider context and relationships. It will use data from other apps in order to make associations with people, times, locations, and topics. The build number for the iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 1.8.1 developer betas is 22B5007p. The first macOS Sequoia beta developer build is 24B5009l. What’s new in the beta? The latest version of Apple Intelligence will be available in the iOS 18.1 developer beta and macOS 15.1 developer beta if the Siri language is set to English and if the region is set to U.S. Developers will have access to the beta within hours, but waiting times may vary. In the initial release, you will find writing tools, priority message, email summaries and email smart reply. On the Lock Screen there will be automatic summarization for emails and texts, as well as summaries of transcriptions. Photos and videos will also have natural-language search. Siri will also be able to use some Apple Intelligence functionality, although ChatGPT integration won’t be available until 2024. Apple Intelligence is not for everyone. Although Apple Intelligence is a major upgrade to Apple’s operating system, it will not be available for all users at launch. Apple Intelligence will first require Apple Silicon Mac models and Apple Silicon iPad models as well as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple Intelligence will also be available on future models with improved specifications. Apple has also stated that it is unlikely to bring the final release Apple Intelligence, and other features, to devices in the EU. It claimed that the interoperability rules of the Digital Markets Act would compromise the integrity of its products in terms of privacy, security and privacy. Apple’s statement from June isn’t good news for EU users, but that doesn’t mean Apple Intelligence will never come to the EU. Cupertino said it was committed to working with European Commission to “attempt to solve” Apple’s regulatory concerns. It is expected that it will also be included as part of the beta developer track, but it remains to see if it will be quickly added to the public beta track after it becomes readily available. It’s possible that it will be a feature available only to developers for a few beta rounds, or at least until the feature is found to work well enough for consumers. Apple Intelligence may not have all features available by the fall. Some features, such as the revamped Siri, may not be ready in time for the fall. Contextual responses may also be delayed until 2025. Apple is also building the Private Compute Cloud, which requires many infrastructure changes. This could also affect its secure off-site computing capabilities.
