Apple lays off about 100 service work across Apple Books, News
Apple Books and other Apple Services hit with layoffs
Apple Services’ priority shift has led to around 100 layoffs in a few teams. The biggest hit was Apple Books, though the app will not be going anywhere. Apple has a low rate of layoffs, and even avoided the mass-layoffs that other tech companies experienced after COVID. Priority shifts may lead to redundancies, or other changes which lead to people being let out. Bloomberg reported that people familiar with layoffs said Apple Books and Apple News were the most affected. The layoffs don’t mean that these services will disappear, and there are new features planned for both. Apple has changed its strategy and no longer prioritizes Apple Books. Apple News layoffs come as a surprise, since that division is where Apple generates advertising revenue. In 2024, there haven’t really been any layoffs. The biggest layoffs were caused by the cancellation of the Apple Car Project in April, when 600 employees were laid off.
