Apple moving forward with your upcoming smart home purchase with an iPad on a machine shoulder.
The plan is to put an iPad-like screen on a robotic arm
Apple continues to search for new platforms. It is currently working on a home robotic arm that combines an iPad and a robot. Apple is always on the lookout for new money-making ideas to develop. Apple has expressed an interest in creating robotics for the house, but the first offering may be a more advanced version of smart displays that are already on the market. Bloomberg sources claim that development teams are working on a device which uses a robot to move around the display. The screen can be rotated and tilted by using various actuators. It’s apparent that the goal is to use it as a central command center for smart homes, which can also be used for videoconferencing. It will be controlled by Siri and Apple Intelligence, and understand commands like “look at me”, to reposition a screen and change the camera’s focus. The device is expected to be released by 2026 or even 2027. The device is expected to cost $1,000. Supposedly codenamed J595, the device was approved by management for development in 2022 but development only began in the last few month. This team consists of “several hundreds” of people who are working on this device. Despite internal concerns that consumers would not buy a robot device like that and the resources needed to make the software to drive it the effort received some major support. Apple CEO Tim Cook and John Ternus, head of hardware engineering, are reportedly in favor. Kevin Lynch, former Apple Car and Health Software Engineering Projects overseer and VP of Technology, is currently in charge of the project.
