Apple selects LG Innotek for all tetraprism glasses for the phone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max camera lens
According to a new report, the main manufacturer of the tetraprism lens for the iPhone 15 Pro Max will initially be the only supplier of the iPhone 16 Pro Max. A new report confirms that the iPhone 16 Pro is expected to gain the 5x optical Zoom feature first seen on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The report also states that a single supplier provides the tetraprism lenses for both new Pro models. LG Innotek is reportedly the exclusive supplier of the iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Pro. According to The Elec this initial stock will represent over half of all iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max produced by Apple by the end 2024. Apple will add Foxconn and Cowell to its list of suppliers once the initial stock has been sold. According to reports, the goal of adding these two new suppliers is to reduce costs. It’s not clear, however, why Apple wouldn’t start production with all three firms if this is the case. LG Innotek’s inclusion in the trio of suppliers is more clear. In December 2023 it was reported that several firms, including Sony, Jahwa and LG Innotek, had experienced difficulties with production yields. LG Innotek probably overcame its issues, but Sony and Jahwa may not have. Jahwa, however, is still said to be producing the component used in the folded zoom lenses modules. The Elec is known for its strong reputation in the supply industry. It has a much worse reputation for the conclusions that it draws about Apple’s future plans from its sources.
