Apple TV + requests more Hollywood studio film certificates.
Apple TV+ will be able to stream a selection of movies in 2024.
Apple TV+ subscribers could have a much wider selection of movies to choose from, as Apple is reportedly in talks to license additional Hollywood films for this service. Apple TV+ offered subscribers a free selection of 51 classic films in March. Apple is eager to add more options to its catalog after the successful experiment. Bloomberg reported on Thursday that Apple is in talks with major Hollywood Studios to license more content for their streaming services. It is said to have spoken to major studios about the possibility of adding more movies to the service. Apple TV+ may only offer the content for a limited time. There is no indication of how long it will be available. The March collection of licensed films was removed on June 30th, marking approximately four months since its release. Apple could license content for a longer period of time or adopt a strategy that provides limited-run access and cycles them out periodically. Netflix, a service that relies on a large catalog of content, has a regular cycle where licensed content enters and leaves the catalog. Apple’s reliance on original content and its move into sports makes it difficult to think about licensing long-term or large catalogs of content. If it chose this route, Apple’s own content would be lost in the sea of licensed films. Apple TV+ films, shows and documentaries were nominated for 72 Emmy Awards.
