Apple Intelligence, the new Apple intelligence software, will be released over several months.
Rumor Score Likely
Last updated 9 hours agoApple’s AI-based enhancements are not likely to arrive in iOS 18 but will most likely arrive in iOS 18.1. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman cites unnamed sources and reports that iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 core will launch as promised in September of 2024. The report claims the first Apple Intelligence feature won’t arrive until October, likely as part of an update to version 18.1. Apple Intelligence features include intelligent notification management, text and voice summarizing, new writing tools and ChatGPT integration. Coming Soon: iOS 18 & iPadOS 18 Both iOS 18 & iPadOS 18 are scheduled to be released for a variety of devices, both old and new. iOS 18 is compatible with the 2018 iPhone XR models and later. iPadOS 18 is compatible with the 2018 iPad Pro models. iPad Air, iPad Mini, and iPad models from 2020 and later are also compatible. Delaying the release of Apple Intelligence (which won’t run on any devices before the iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max) will give developers more opportunity to integrate Apple Intelligence into their own apps. Apple will also have more time to fix any bugs that may be found. Apple Intelligence is coming later Apple has already hinted that Apple Intelligence won’t be included in the initial iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 launch. Apple Intelligence is expected to debut in phases during the last quarter 2024 and may extend into early 2025. Soon, iOS 18.1 and iPadOS18.1 betas will be available for developers to test. The relatively small number currently compatible devices will make testing of the new features take longer than usual. Apple has treated iOS 18, and its related updates, and Apple Intelligence separately since their debut at the WWDC in June 2024. The OS and Apple Intelligence were presented in two separate parts during the initial keynote due to the high requirements of the latter technology. The delay will likely result in the initial shipments of iPhone 16 models having iOS 18 installed, but initially lacking the Apple Intelligence feature. Apple could decide to focus on getting familiar with iOS 18 features in order to set the stage for later Apple Intelligence updates.
