There are four PSP models right now. There’s the 1000, the 2000, the 3000, and the soon-to-be-released Go. How far is Sony planning to continue revising the hardware for their handheld? Rumor has it that they may be planning to release at least eight different models.

According to PSPGen, further investigation of firmware 6.00 points to the possibility. There’s apparently an index_0xg.dat file there that can load from _01g to _08g. The _02g module already appeared in old firmware for the PSP-1000, disappeared, and then returned when the PSP-2000 was released:

Turning to the topic of the day, there is a file that is used to manage information of regions and models of the PSP which is called index_0xg.dat and today gives us valuable information. Indeed, the 6.00 firmware can have support to load a index_0xg.dat in this case have its support to _01g to _08g.

Funny is not it? Sony is therefore to integrate the ability to manage prx next 4 models of PSP. Oldest should remember that modules _02g had already appeared in firmware of the PSP-1000 before disappearing in an update next and finally to return with the release of the PSP-2000. We may be here in the same case: a discraction before precipitation Listed.

Of course, this isn’t exactly hard evidence as the modules could be associated with prototype or debug versions. Still, don’t be too surprised if we end up seeing another revision next year. Sony has released a new PSP every year for the last three years now, after all.
