Art Director Kriegler on CoD 4’s lighting and particle effects
What we have below is a video interview with Mr. Richard Kriegler, the man leading the Art Department for the Call of Duty franchise. In Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the guy is back and will show the whole world how lighting and particle effects can make or break a title. Judging from the pre-Alpha gameplay video though, we believe that Kriegler’s team is doing a fantastic job.
According to the art director, Infinity Ward is using a new development tool for CoD 4‘s lighting effect. He shared that all engines have a limitation when mimicking real-world lighting and that is where they are trying to focus now. Kriegler added that they wanted to make sure that fans are fully immersed in the game not only because of gameplay but because of the graphics as well.
Quite interestingly, Kriegler shared that what they are doing now is just the beginning as they plan to push the limits of graphics in their upcoming video games. Call of Duty 4 will be released on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Games for Windows platforms. Activision has yet to name a specific release date for the title.
