Assassin’s Creed novels canceled by request of real assassins

Famous writer Steve Barne - Image 1According to author Steven Barnes’ post on his personal blog, the planned trilogy of novels based on Ubisoft‘s Assassin’s Creed (Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3, PC) won’t see the light of day, because actual descendants of assassins from the Ismaili Hashashim sect paid Ubisoft a visit. The sect led by Agha Khan requested respect for their ancestors.

Religious references were soon removed and Ubisoft “hired an expert to vet the book,” said Barnes. He continued, “They wanted to send the book to the Agha Khan’s people for their suggestions.” Since the writer stated he got paid for the first book, we’re led to believe that the one which was supposed to be sent is the initial entry to the trilogy.

Unfortunately, we may never know what the Assassin’s Creed novel was about. Even Barnes expressed his displeasure, saying “I was no longer amused. The whole three-book project died.” Let’s just look at the bright side and appreciate the fact that nobody was assassinated in the debacle, shall we?
