After experiencing “a difficult period in the company’s history,” Atari announced that CEO David Pierce has resigned following the removal of other board members as part of the company’s restructuring plans to restore profitability. Chief restructuring officer Curtis Solsvig will act as interim CEO now that only three board members remain.

“We appreciate David’s support and commitment through a difficult period in the Company’s history and wish him well in his future endeavors,” said board of directors chairman Gene Davis, but Atari did not reveal the reason behind the former CEO’s resignation. With the announcement comes the company’s statement to focus on publishing titles, and the handing over of Test Drive‘s licenses to parent company Infogrames.

Some remember Atari’s Q1 financial report which revealed US$ 11.9 million in losses for the company. Things are looking grim now that FUNimation Entertainment is even requesting termination of Atari’s Dragon Ball Z license. Here’s to hoping Atari leaves the deep, so we can still enjoy Alone in the Dark and Dragon Ball Z: Budokai titles in the future.
