Atari classics hit Xbox Live Arcade January 2007
Atari‘s most popular coin-op arcade games have been overhauled with new graphics and special effects. And they’re coming to Xbox Live Arcade beginning January 2007. Six titles are all ready to go: Centipede / Millipede, Battlezone, Asteroids / Asteroids Deluxe, Missile Command, Tempest, and Warlords.
- Centipede / Millipede: There’s the classic mode for you old-school people, but the evolution mode has “high definition graphics and special effects like motion blur, trails, and particle-based explosion effects.:
- Battlezone: The tank-versus-tank game has new multiplayer modes like Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Capture the Flag. There are also new special effects and explosions.
- Asteroids / Asteroids Deluxe: The press release said “updated, beautifully rendered, high definition graphics.”
- Missile Command: The classic game where you protect your city from alien invaders now has “updated graphics and 3D rendered vistas.” As with the others, you can choose the original version if you want old-school gameplay.
- Tempest: Same as the others: the classic gets an update.
- Warlords: Defeat the other kings while protecting yourself in a 4-player game. And you can import your own picture into your castle.
That’s six titles so far. We’re expecting more. Well, a few of us here are hopeful this picks up (we were impressed by Atari’s Test Drive Unlimited, so we’re still in a pro-Atari mood – hm, how about Neverwinter multiplayer on XBL? LOL).
Who wants to bet there will eventually be 85 of these Atari Classics by the end of 2007?
