Aussie Toys R’ Us says no free game with Wii preorders
Uh-oh. Looks like the deal for our Australian counterparts is going from bad to worse by the minute as a new bomb was landed in Wii-pre order-land. First it was the lack of component cables, and now it looks like people who have pre-ordered their Wiis from Toys R’ Us will also not get the free game that the franchise’s staff has been announcing since early this year.
This has of course caused a lot of bad feelings (to put it mildly) towards the Toys R’ Us admin people, as earlier, customers were informed that they can choose ANY one free game of their choice to go with their Wii. Later, the deal got shriveled down to a free copy of Open Season, until the store caved in a bit and gave people the choice between Open Season and Need for Speed: Carbon. Now that the free game will be taken away altogether, there are disgruntled customers who have already been considering contacting The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission to air their complaints for what they claim are violations of Sections 52 and 53 of the Trade Practises Act which deals with Misleading Conduct and Bait Advertising.
On the other hand, many are still confused about the matter, as calls that some customers made to other Toys R’ Us branches have come up with the staff telling them that the free game deal is still honored.
So, for those who have secured their Wiis via Toys R’ Us, it might be a good idea to give them a call as early as now and ask them how they’ll be handling your pre-order. Best to do it early instead of having a bundle of headaches come December 7.
