Bare-bones simple: The Wiimote-raquet “mod”

Here’s an interesting controller tweak that looks easy to recreate. Gene0514 posted a thread over at AcidMods detailing pictures of the author’s attempt to maximize the Wiimote‘s “feel” in tennis-style games, requiring just a few rubber bands, a  racket, and a controller:

Going into further details, version 1 on the right used a badminton racket because Gene0514 couldn’t find his tennis racket at the time. Version 2 on the right has the controller mounted on a tennis racket after it was found. Gene0514 further notes that the rig helped tennis matches on the Wii feel more real, although the “mod” is limited to this role – disassembly is a simple matter of removing the rubber bands.

As we said earlier, this “mod” looks easy enough to follow, although we do caution the readers – putting something as heavy as a Wiimote on the business end of a tennis/badminton racket will do strange things to its balance when you start swinging. Watch those wrists if you’re serious about trying this out (stretch first), and make sure to round out your collection of controller add-ons with other game-specific peripherals.
