To quote the said confirmation, from a scan of the magazine:

FORTY-FIED MULTIPLAYER

EA hasn’t yet made any announcements about the multiplayer side of the game. The only thing we know for certain is that 40 people will be able to duke it out on servers when the sequel hits rather than Bad Company’s previous player cap of 24. New game modes and plenty of maps a shoo-in however, that’s what sequels are made for after all.

This comes in conflict with the previously reported number of the devs being happy with just having 24 players at a time online. No word, too, if this will also apply to the console versions, or if this is solely for PC, but we’re sure to get more details on this in the coming days.

And since EA has not yet “made any announcements” (although this was posted on their forums), we’d rather tag this as rumor for now.

Stay tuned for that.
