Battlefield: Bad Company beta leak supposedly works for modded 360s
A word of warning for those of you who had their Xbox 360 modded just to play the leaked multiplayer beta of Electronic Arts‘ Battlefield: Bad Company (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) – you may have been inadvertently punked by the download sites advertising the ruse about the game only running on modded consoles. More about this in our full article after the jump.
If you’re one of those gamers who had their Xbox 360 consoles modified just to play the multiplayer beta version of Electronic Arts‘ Battlefield: Bad Company (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3), then shame on you. Seriously, though, it looks like you were punked if you happen to be one of those people who fell into this rather precarious trap.
Ever since the multiplayer beta was released on Xbox Live last March 25, copies of the game have been leaked among different online download sites. However, what complicates matters is the fact that these sites openly advertise that the beta copy of the game will only work with a modified Xbox 360 console.
However, according to several commentors on the Xbox 360 Fanboy website, the leaked beta copy works regardless of whether or not you mod your console. This may be hard to believe for some, but the latest updates claim it’s possible. It was also mentioned that the method used to play such games was similar to the Guitar Hero III demo, wherein all you needed was to insert a burnt DVD-R copy of the game on your Xbox 360 to able to go online and play the beta.
Misleading statements such as the ones given out by the download sites hosting the game can lead to very dire consequences with the warranty services offered by Microsoft. Considering the online nature of Battlefield: Bad Company‘s beta version, you might even get yourself inadvertently ban hammered for your actions.
The game is set to be released in North America by June 23 anyway, so let’s all try and avoid becoming the kid who failed the marshmallow test.
