battlegrounds

Xfacter (a.k.a. Alex Wickes) has just released Battlegrounds, one of the newest PSP game ‘brews in our QJ forum. It’s Xfacter’s first coded game and obviously it’s still a work in progress. Basically, it’s a deathmatch game that still lacks a real storyline (but the developer has plans of creating one in the future). You move around using simple controls, scroll onto different backgrounds and shoot enemies. All the elements of the ‘brew, including the AI, the enemies (Random Enemy Spawner), the collision effect (nothing yet between and player and enemies), the music (no MP3s but you can add your own in the data/sounds folder), the weapons, and even the extra options are pretty much still in their first stages of development.

The game features controls with their corresponding use such as:
    + CROSS – Boost
    + SQUARE – Shoot Cannon
    + CIRCLE – Shoot Lasers
    + D-Pad or  Analog Stick – Movement
    + Right Trigger – Strafe
    + Start – Pause
    + Select – Pause/Play MP3 Playback

 Weapons:
+ Cannon – Your generic explosive shell
+ Laser –  Your generic lazy beam

 Extra Options (in pause menu):
    + Change Clock Speed
+ Run a homemade FPS counter
    + Show Enemy Health

To install, you can just copy over the folders from from either the 1.0 or 1.5 directory.

Xfacter thanks QJ.net and the guys at #psp-programming on irc.freenode.net, psp-programming.com for support, as well as Insomniac or the PSP native random number generator code. If you think this is a promising ‘brew game, then drop by our QJ forum and discuss it via the link below. Otherwise, e-mail Xfacter at [email protected].
