Battlestar Galactica MMORPG announced

When you have an intergalactic war where warriors of different styles clash with a multitude of weapons in their arsenal, you’ve got what Universal would call “a supremely gameable intellectual property.” Battlestar Galactica is one such IP, so it was only a matter of time for humans and the Cylon to go at it in-game. NBC Universal and Bigpoint have mashed their expertise together to take the BSG universe and give it life as an MMORPG.

NBC Universal and Bigpoint have mashed their expertise together to take the BSG universe and give it life as an MMORPG.

 

The game, officially titled Battlestar Galactica Online, will span across the vast universe of BSG. Just like with most MMOs, there are multiple classes, wide stockpile of weapons, and plenty of room for character development. If that gets a little old, you’ll also be able to take to the stars with a versatile selection of ships and weaponry. Now that BSG is an MMO, you can choose to play as a Cylon and help them clean up what little is left of the human race.

 

The game will be co-developed by Unity, who will make use of the Unity engine for the game, enabling browser windows to run high quality 3D applications.

The BSG MMORPG is targeting Fall 2010 release, and is currently being shown at the GDC.
