Bayer makes Sugar meter fun for diabetic kids with DS
It is confounding – but not entirely uncommon – to find that kids may have a hard time finding their other gadgets, say for example his blood glucose meter, but not his Nintendo DS. Such was the scenario that inspired Paul Wessel to develop the DIDGET meter, in conjunction with Bayer.
It is confounding – but not entirely uncommon – to find that kids may have a hard time finding their other gadgets, say for example his blood glucose meter, but not his Nintendo DS. Such was the scenario that inspired Paul Wessel to develop the DIDGET meter, in conjunction with Bayer.
A parent of a child with Type 1 Diabetes, Wessel thought of developing a blood glucose meter that would connect directly to the Nintendo DS and Lite handhelds so that they will be constantly reminded to test their blood sugar levels. Unfortunately, this is not available for the DSi model since the attachment requires the Slot 2, which the DSi does not have.
Apart from that function, it also provides for an incentive system where the diabetic patient will be rewarded with points in a game, which can then be used to buy items or unlock levels.
There’s still no date set as to when Bayer’s DIDGET meter will be made available, but you can sign up as early as now to be notified when the gadget will be out. Price is pegged at GB£ 29.99.
